2019 JUNIORS CLINIC AT RUIRU SPORTS CLUB – DECEMBER

Ruiru Sports Club hosted their free golf clinic last week where a total of 19 Juniors from club members and non-members came to the club to learn the exciting golf game. The Club has come to be well known in golf promotion in the Country.

The Juniors from day one were coached from the scratch how to hold the clubs, how to hit the balls (the swing) putting and all that pertains to a good play in the course including bunkers and putting. The resident Club Pro. Mr. Stephen Karanja who is known to be a very good coach for beginners took charge of the clinic with the help of Ben Omondi and Chris Andrea with low handicaps.

To climax the week the Juniors had a tournament where they played 9 holes. In the end, 8-year Don Muchiri emerged the overall winner shooting a gross of 40 points. Chris Mugo shot 49 gross in Category B 6-10 years. Others who won prizes in different categories were Kyle Wanjohi who shot 39 gross and Victor Gitonga took the R/up shooting 45 gross in Category A 10-16 years.

Due to the interest the Juniors showed for the game the club extended the clinic and gave the Juniors an extra day for the Juniors to come and enjoy the course and 10 Juniors participated in the mini tournament where they scored as follows:-

Alex Ngugi ( The Junior’s Captain) – 45 gross

Victor Kariuki – 56 gross

Ron Muthama – 64 gross

Faber Mwangi – 65 gross

Don Muchiri – 67 gross

Kyle Mwangi – 72 gross

Samuel Githinji – 77 gross

Chris Mugo- 86 gross

Maxwell Wachira – 88 gross

Angela Njambi – 89 gross.

After completion of the clinic all Juniors who participated were awarded with participation certificates.

Speaking during prize giving, the club secretary Mr. Anthony Kamau who awarded the prizes said the club was pleased to host the Juniors and will host another clinic next holiday season. He said he was happy to see many Junior getting interested with the game. Don Muchiri the winner said he was happy for the club to allow them to come learn the game and would participate next time . Alex Ngugi ( The Juniors Captain ) who won the last mini round also thanked the club for giving them the opportunity.
