The 2024 MTN Invitational Golf Tournament, held on Saturday, September 21st at the prestigious Achimota Golf Club, attracted top-tier golfers from across the nation. The event showcased remarkable skill, resilience, and sportsmanship, with players delivering outstanding performances across multiple categories.
In Men’s Group A, Frederick Semenu Duvour dominated with 40 points off a handicap of 12, securing first place. He was closely followed by Justin B.C. Butah with 38 points and Solomon Allotey with 37 points, both playing off handicaps of 10.
Ladies’ Group A witnessed an impressive performance from Vastie Amoafo-Yeboah, who clinched victory with 44 points. Catherine Fabbi followed in second place with a solid 38 points.
In Men’s Group B, Simran Oberoi took the top spot, scoring an impressive 43 points off a handicap of 19. Walid Zoobi (41 points) and Kevin Amedoh (38 points) also performed strongly.
Ladies’ Group B saw fierce competition, with Sheryl Afia Afari shining with 45 points off a handicap of 28. Marlene Tonyigah followed with 36 points, earning second place.
The Seniors’ Division crowned Hajia Zenabu Sulemana as champion, scoring 38 points gross, while Chris Apau-Opong followed closely behind with 37 points.
Auxiliary prizes were awarded for:
- Longest Drive (Hole 15): Simran Oberoi (Men) and Floria Hurtubise (Ladies)
- Closest to the Pin (Hole 18): Philip Paekes (Men) and Letitia Amponsah-Mensah (Ladies)
During the event, Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer for MTN, delivered an insightful speech, drawing parallels between golf and business. She highlighted the importance of strategy, skill, and camaraderie in both arenas, while emphasizing MTN’s dedication to fostering sportsmanship and business growth across the country.
The tournament was deemed a resounding success, bringing together golfers and business leaders for a day of competition, networking, and celebration.
In a related highlight, MTN’s Board Chairman, Mr. Ishmael Yamoah, was honored with the prestigious Emeritus Award by the Achimota Golf Club for his exceptional contributions and commitment to the club over the past forty years. The award was presented by Mr. Frank Adu, President of the Achimota Golf Club, during the 2024 MTN Invitational Golf Tournament.
