The 86th 2021 Ghana Open ended at the Celebrity Golf Club in Sakumono, Ghana with thrilling mix of results among golfers who took part in the two-day event.
The tournament attracted a bevy of golfers from across the country who took turns at the tees, walked the fairways, and battled the greens to book defining spots at the leaderboard.
When it mattered most, Nicholas Appiah dominated the Men Group A in the Scratch category to finish atop the leaderboard. Nicholas shot 71 on day one and followed with 73 on his second round for a total 144.
Sampson Assorgbah ended his two-day campaign at a total score of 147 after carding 72 and 75 respectively for the second position.
In the Men Group A Handicap category, youngster Rickie Hurtubise stayed in contention to win after returning a total net score of 141.
Rickie shot an incredible net score of 65 on day one and a 76 on day two to win on countback ahead of Zhang Dong Jun who recorded same scores after day two.
The Men Group B Scratch category equally produced exciting mix of scores. Sangchul Han finished in the first spot with a total score of 170 while Ricus Terblanche shot a total 171 for a second-place finish.
Gustave Godonou maintained his poise to clinch the first spot in the Men Group B – Handicap category after shooting a net score of 140 over the two rounds of golf. Jason Roberts carded a net score of 143 to finish in the second position.
In the Ladies Group A Scratch category, Bernice Esi Dzitowoko took charge of her game and the field to win in a convincing fashion. Bernice ended day one at 79 and proceeded to finish day two at 75 for a total 154 strokes.
This placed her in a jaw-dropping 11 strokes ahead of Constance Awuni who finished at 165 over the two days.
Vivian Dick delivered a total 151 shots to lead in the Ladies Group A handicap category. Felicity Okyei-Gyeabour carded 154 for a second-place finish.
In the Ladies Group B Scratch category, Li Ping Wang finished at 188 for the first spot while Nana Konadu Agyemang scored 194 for the second place.
Naomi Teye Lartey shot a net score of 143 to win the Ladies Group B handicap category. Daisy Anor Apo followed in the second position with a net score of 149.
President of the Ghana Golf Association, Mike Aggrey registered his name on the leaderboard after shooting 89 in the Men Senior Scratch category while Kwaku Boachie Sarpong carded 91 to finish in the second place.
Joy Arkutu clinched the prize in the Ladies Seniors Handicap category after shooting 77.
Yao Dogbe who couldn’t find his rhythm in this tournament however found solace in the Men’s Longest Drive prize while Bernice Dzitowoko took home the prize for the Ladies Longest Drive.
Joshua Donkor won the Men Closest to the Pin while Louise Serfontein lifted the prize in the ladies Closest to the Pin.
The 2021 86th Ghana Open presented intense competitions among the golfers who participated in the events.
