Constance Awuni put herself in contention to win the Ladies Scratch Competition for a third consecutive year of the Asantehene Open.
His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II pleased with this outstanding feat , has asked Ms. Awuni to keep the eye-catching trophy during the presentation ceremony of the Vodafone 61st Asantehene Open Golf Championship.
At this year’s Open, Constance moved from a three-point deficit on her first round when she shot 88, to clinch the trophy by shooting 80 on round two for a 168 total.
On day two, she mostly rolled the ball beautifully that resulted in delightful mix of one birdie, almost a dozen of pars and a few bogeys.
“It was great to play in the Vodafone Asantehene Open and I am happy I did my best to come this far.” She said.
Having registered this crucial win, Constance qualifies to play in the upcoming All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) a biennial ladies golfing event in Africa.
However, Mary Prempeh who led the pack in round one with a score of 85, shot 87 on round two to settle for second place in the Ladies Scratch category. Her overall score was 172.
Achimota based Jessica Tei returned a total score of 173(86-87) for a third-place finish.
Felicity Okyei-Gyeabour, one of the favorites going into the Open, clearly didn’t find her rhythm as she settled for fourth place on a total score of 176.
Vodafone the leading sponsor of the Open was very generous with prizes to the various winners.
