The maiden GCB Tournament of Champions was successfully hosted by the Grande Eco Cabanas Resort at Lake Bosomtwe-Pipie on Saturday 15thDecember 2018.
The event, made possible by GCB Bank Ltd, was exclusively for winners of various competitions held at the Royal Golf Club, Kumasi in 2018.
A number of high patronage golfers at the club and Executive package holders were invited by Management to join the fun but on a non-competitive basis.
Staff from GCB Bank Ltd were there to grace the occasion and brand the venue. The day was packed with lots of activities including golf, boat ride and karaoke evening.
Golfers started arriving at the resort as early as 7am. Breakfast ended at 8:30am and the competition started in a shotgun format at 9am.
The 1,000yds 9-hole golf course set out beautifully within the chalet accommodation has 200yds as the longest hole and 65yds as the shortest.
All the holes play to par 3 but 2 holes were adjusted to par 4 for the competition. The competition was played as a scratch event with a total course par of 29. There were 3 rounds played over 9, 5 and 3 holes.
Golfers were treated to freshly plucked coconut at hole 5 (half-way) as part of the package for the event.
Daniel Ntim dispatched the menās field to take home the winning prize. He topped all the 3 elimination rounds and went on to beat Frank Gyasi by 1 shot and Bernard Baiden by 2 shots in the finals.
In the Ladiesā section, Maggie Oduro was 3rd in the first round, and qualified for the final round in 2nd position.
She then beat Constance Awuni by 2 shots to take the winning prize. The losers of the earlier rounds and some guests were treated to a boat ride on the lake to enrich their experience of the resort.
The resort restaurant was turned into a dancing floor after the presentation ceremony. Golfers and guests were treated to top class live band music before acouple of golfers took over the stage as karaoke enthusiasts.
The last activity for the day was a cocktail which afforded the participants the opportunity to network and get to know each other better. Golfers started heading back to Kumasi after an eventful and memorable day before the sun beautifully set over the lake.
