Day 2 of the Vodafone 61st Asantehene Open Golf Championship has ended with medley of interesting results from the Pros and Scratch category, Seniors, Pro Seniors as well as the Men and Ladies Support category.
It can only get better as the day unfolds to the final day on Sunday. In the meantime, let me take you through snippets of results from Day 2.
Defending champion, Vincent Torgah leads the relatively strong field in the Pros Division after shooting 4-under 68 on Round 1. Following in second place is the veteran Emos Korblah on 2-under 70, Peter Amenyo and Kojo Barni are in third and Fourth places with 71 each.
Bernard Kofi Asare finished off with a score of 75 for first place in the Men Scratch Division. Following in second place is Maxwell Owusu-Bonsu also on a score of 75 on round one. Christopher Osei Cobbina is in third place with 76.
In the Ladies Support category, Samira Abdullah closed off with a score of 65 off handicap 30 to win in the category. Sandra Alhasan came second on a score of 71 off handicap 34.
Seth Bekoe Apeadu returned a net score of 77 off handicap 24 to emerge winner in the Seniors category. Kwadwo Okyei-Gyeabour maintained the second position on a score of 79 off 19. Gambrah Sampaney managed a third place finish on a score of 81 off 16.
In the Pros Seniors category, James Larry shot a total 76 to lead in the category after Round 1. Victor Brave Mensah is following in second place on a score of 78 same as Kwaku Effah Poku.
Vodafone has been very expressive with its intent to make this year’s Open one for the history books. As you may know, for the first time, the open is extended to five days from the regular two or three days. There are also at stake avalanche of prizes up for grabs for all deserving winners to be announced on Sunday.
