After a tie for second spot in the first-round of the 2019 Shagamu Cup Championship, Francis Epe cooled down considerably on the second day, shooting another consecutive score of 70 in the second round at Lafarge Cement Golf Club in Shagamu, Ogun State.
Epe ended his second round with an overall score of two under par in the tournament, to distinguish himself from the field, placing him in a solo lead on the leader board, three shots ahead of Mike Ubi and Vincent Togarh who are currently tied in second place with one over par going into the moving day at the Shagamu Cup.
Epe in the second round finished with four birdies, eleven pars and three boogies, en route to his second win in the AFRICAN TOUR; sixth event of the season that awards Four Thousand Order of Merit Points to the winner.
Meanwhile, day two show was a far cry for Enoch Owusu and Christopher Francis from what they had accomplished in their first round, when both players fired two-under 69 respectively to hold a share of the lead.
However, both players are still in the mix at the Shagamu Cup Championship and will be playing in the two final rounds, thanks to their fantastic opening rounds, but another performance like the one they churned out on the second round, would crush their chances of winning, after the duo carded a pair of 76, to take a share of the seventh spot at three over par.
The Shagamu Cup tournament will be used as a qualifying round for NGF Amateur players to represent Nigeria in Mauritius, in an all-expense paid trip, in October.
Only three of the amateur players on the field made their way into the final two rounds.
These amateur players include; Uche Eze with seven over par, O. Owolabiwith eight over par and A. Oyewoga with twelve over par, after the first two rounds.
