Golfers from across the country and beyond thronged the Tema Country Golf Club, to compete in the maiden Centre of the World Invitational Golf Tournament by the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC). The event forms part of initiatives by GTDC to celebrate the Greenwich Meridian accolade and pride that Ghana has over the years been touted with. <\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s the aim of the tourism company to ride the popular \u201cCentre of the World\u201d leanings to effectively promote and drive some investments opportunities for the Tema metropolis and the golf club. <\/span><\/p>\n

Joseph Korblah, took charge of the Men Group A to register his name as the winner of the maiden event with 36 points in the Stapleford Play. He was followed in second place by Teye G. Lartey who finished off with 35 points. Kwabena Boakye was third with 33 points and Alex Fiagome maintained the fourth position with 31 points.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the Men Group B, Felix Akuamoah won with 36 points after beating into second place Appiah Korang who closed with 33 points. Ebenezer Ayanful managed with same 33 points for third place but was separated on count back.  <\/span><\/p>\n

Etwi Barimah battled a reasonably tough field to win in the Ladies Group A with 35 Stapleford points. The evergreen Mona Mylers-Lamptey finished off with 34 points for second place and Grace Afriyie stayed in a yawning distant with 31 points for third place. <\/span><\/p>\n

In the Ladies Group B, Angela Ayanful maintained her poise to win the category. She was followed in second and third places by Helena Appiah and Diana Badun respectively. <\/span><\/p>\n

Deserving winners in the various categories were presented with trophies, cash prizes and souvenirs from GTDC and the sponsors Universal Merchant Bank. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Greenwich meridian line passes through the Tema Golf course, Tema Post and the Greenwich Presbyterian Church at Community one; it\u2019s the closet habitable land area to the center of the world which is located in the Atlantic Ocean. <\/span><\/p>\n

Kwadwo Odame Antwi, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Development Company, during the closing ceremony reiterated the company\u2019s commitment to transform the Tema Golf Club into a first-class resort in Africa to be named as \u201cCentre of the World.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n
