{"id":3370,"date":"2018-12-03T07:14:31","date_gmt":"2018-12-03T07:14:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thebureaugh.com\/addons\/thegolferonline.com\/golfer\/?p=3370"},"modified":"2025-07-06T13:21:30","modified_gmt":"2025-07-06T13:21:30","slug":"kojo-barni-holds-off-tough-field-to-grab-second-blue-jacket","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thegolferonline.com\/golf\/blog\/2018\/12\/03\/kojo-barni-holds-off-tough-field-to-grab-second-blue-jacket\/","title":{"rendered":"Kojo Barni holds off tough field to grab second blue jacket"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Kojo Barni held his own among a considerably tough field to win big during the Gold Fields Ghana PGA Championship in Damang on Saturday. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">The Tarkwa based golfer clinched a check of GHC35,000, an impressive wood crafted trophy and a second blue jacket. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">During the contest, Kojo kept his cool from start to finish\u00a0 to defend a title he earned last year. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3371 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thebureaugh.com\/addons\/thegolferonline.com\/golfer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/47501173_745643142469268_2775167778003353600_n-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"489\" height=\"427\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">A 5-under 67 on day one, was enough to place him in a comfortable lead going into the second round, as he stayed two-shots ahead of the field. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">On day two, Kojo continued the chase with a promising 69, followed by 71 on day three and a course par of 72 on the final day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3372 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thebureaugh.com\/addons\/thegolferonline.com\/golfer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/47289663_894898677373125_3026015093818130432_n-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"457\" height=\"345\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">He finished the tournament on a defining 9-under 279; three shots ahead of his closest contender, Emos Korblah. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Emos ended his campaign at 6-under 282 from a pool of 69 on day one, and triples of 71 for the remaining days. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Emos, known as \u201cLand Lord\u201d, was consistent from the onset but couldn\u2019t find the kick to rattle the leaderboard in his favor. He still walked home with a cool GHC25,000. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3378 \" src=\"http:\/\/thebureaugh.com\/addons\/thegolferonline.com\/golfer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/19702351_1722820017732747_770830763390725679_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"515\" height=\"773\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Meanwhile, Vincent Torgah, West Africa\u2019s number one golfer, entered the championship on the heels of two emphatic victories at the NDDC Pro-Am and the Nigeria Masters. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">The avid golfer however didn\u2019t find his rhythm on the open round of the Championship after he carded an uninspiring 75.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">He repeated another 75 on day two going into the third round. He nevertheless delivered the best course shot of 65 on day three that almost crashed the leaderboard. He earned GHC2000 for that feat. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">The \u201ccatch-me-if you can golfer\u201d, however, stumbled on the final day when he posted 73 to complete at 288 for the third position. He bagged GHC13,000. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Ayisah Lucky followed in the fourth spot after recording a total 289 during the championship. Ayisah delivered 71, 72, 73 and 73 to stay in the mix for the fourth place. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Other known golfers from Senegal, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Cote D\u2019Ivoire and Togo battled out during the championship but fell off along the way. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3373 \" src=\"http:\/\/thebureaugh.com\/addons\/thegolferonline.com\/golfer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG-20181130-WA0036-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"535\" height=\"356\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">One of the high points during the championship was the arrival of His Majesty Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Damang Golf Course on Saturday. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">The Asantehene was joined by a section of dignitaries to play a round of golf. They were; Nana Bi-Kusi Appiah(Paramount Chief of Manso Nkwanta Traditional Area), Nick Holland (CEO Goldfields), Peter Breeze(CEO Asanko Mines)and Mr Alfred Baku (Executive Vice President and Head of West Africa, Goldfields).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Other dignitaries present during the closing ceremony were, Hans de Beer (Chairman of the Organizing Committee), Mr. Mike Aggrey, President of the Ghana Golf Association and Mr. Anthony Mintah, President of the Ghana PGA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Mr. Mintah expressed immense appreciation to Gold Fields for sponsoring and delivering a truly phenomenal event. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">TheGolfer Online <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kojo Barni held his own among a considerably tough field to win big during the Gold Fields Ghana PGA Championship in Damang on Saturday.
