Rickie Hurtubise demonstrated incredible zeal with jaw-dropping drives, putting accuracy, and bunker shots at the just-ended R&A Junior Golf Open. After delivering 81 strokes on day one, Rickie stepped forward on day two to manage his game and battle the course to stay in contention.
However, his hopes of advancing to the final round were cut short when windy conditions challenged his approach shots thereby shooting 89 on day two. This painfully caused the youngster to miss the cut by 5 strokes en route to the final round.
Nevertheless, the opportunity to represent his country, Ghana at arguably the highest level as a junior golfer, is one that he wouldn’t take for granted.
Playing the Monifieth Golf Links was Rickie’s first time playing any links course, but his fearless display and commanding drives were ones that spectators and officials alike were pleasantly impressed. After missing the cut, Rickie went on to compete in the Regionals where he placed third after carding 78.
While in the United Kingdom, Rickie Hurtubise and his parents made their way to the Old Course to watch history unfold at the ongoing Open. After day three of The Open, Rory McIlroy and 24-year Viktor Hovland have separated themselves from the pack as they lead by four going into the final day.
As Rickie takes in the experience of watching global golf icons compete to become Champion Golfer of the Year, he will travel back to Ghana with a truckload of inspiration to guide him on his golf journey.
Based in St Andrews, The R&A organizes The Open, AIG Women’s Open, elite amateur events, rankings, and international matches, and jointly governs the sport of golf worldwide.
