In the heart of Accra, Ghana, the Achimota Golf Club hosted the prestigious MTN Golf Invitational 2023 on Friday, October 13th. The event saw golf enthusiasts gather for a day of fierce competition and camaraderie.
With a remarkable performance and a handicap of 10, Kojo Choi won the Men’s Group A championship with a score of 38 points. In a very competitive race, Christopher Mbii (handicap +1) and Kwame Boafo (handicap 9) secured the second and third positions respectively. The top three contenders were only separated by one point.
Floria Hurtubise, who had a handicap of 14, won the Ladies’ Group A championship with an impressive 37 points. Vastie Amoafo-Yeboah demonstrated her abilities and finished in second place with 34 points.
The Men’s Group B also witnessed an exceptional performance by Philip Bonney, who secured the top spot with a handicap of 24 and an impressive 40 points. Peter Quartey-Papafio and Justin Butah took the second and third positions, respectively.
In the Ladies’ Group B, Charity Vogel emerged as the champion, with an outstanding score of 36 points off handicap 27. Elizabeth Essel-Koomsom secured the second position with 34 points. The women golfers’ intense competition elevated the degree of interest in the tournament.
Meanwhile, the Seniors category was a testament to the enduring spirit of golf, with Jan Vogel and Helen Appah winning the men’s and ladies sections, respectively.
Additionally, the Auxiliary Prize was awarded to Joshua Mensah-Larkai for the Longest Drive on Hole 17, showcasing his exceptional power and precision. The Closest to the Pin award on Hole 18 went to Nash Antwi for the men and Jessica Tei for the ladies.
