Opoku in a classic turn-around

Opoku in a classic turn-around

Tema based Ernest Opoku reversed a two-point deficit in the first round of the 2018 Stanbic – Otumfuo Invitational Golf Tournament to a 1 -under 71 on day two as he cruised to victory in the Pros Division. He took home the cash prize of GHC3000.

Ernest pulled away with 4 birdies and held on to 11 pars to close the campaign in what has become the first major tournament in the Ghanaian golf calendar.

Even though, he bogeyed three holes, his ability to manage the game after each hole kept him in contention as he continued to stay in the hunt for the ultimate cash prize.

“When you play with talented players, you take your time to manage the game”. He said as he described the strategy he adopted for his second round. He continued saying, “you can always overcome the course when you sufficiently trained for the game and keep your head down”.

Ernest is participating in the upcoming Cameroun Open and he’s hopeful to carry with him a truckload of the positive outcomes from the Stanbic – Otumfuo invitational.

Following in second place was Vincent Torgah as he closed off with 73 bringing his overall scores to 148. Vincent, though a favorite leading to the tournament, walked the course with the sad departure of his Dad occasionally lingering on his mind. Nevertheless, he managed a medley of three birdies and 11 pars to finish his second campaign at 73.

He looks forward to competing in the Cameroun and Nigeria Opens as he is determined to relive his last year victories. In a telephone interview with The Golfer Online, the affable golfer congratulated the winner Ernest Opoku for clinching the ultimate prize.

Stephen Klah, however threw away a 72 score lead in the first round to settle in a consolatory third place after he finished his second day with 78.

The 2018 Stanbic – Otumfuo came to a successful end and the Managing Director of Stanbic Bank, Mr. Alhassan Andani was full of praise to His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for their partnership with the club. He also thanked the many golfers who participated in the three-day event for honoring the invitation.
