The Celebrity Golf Club in Sakumono was agog with excitement and huge euphoria during the rebirth of the Spinal Awareness Golf Classic on Saturday July 6.
The Classic was held to create the awareness on the importance of the Spine in everyday health. The attendance and success of this year’s Spinal Awareness Golf Classic places the tournament to be one of the biggest Golf Charity events in Ghana and West Africa.
The Spinal Clinic Limited hosted the tournament and the event attracted over one hundred Golfers from Ghana, the USA, and other parts of the world to be part of an incredible golf experience.
When the day glided to a close, Thompson Kobladzei surged ahead in the Men Group A for a defining victory and also earned the Orange Jacket. Thompson closed with 39 points after edging into second position, Yang Fuhai who finished at 37 points.
Charles Asante ended the day at 36 points for the third place while Theodore Asampong carded 35 points for the fourth place with Francis Akwasi Opoku at same 35 points but was separated on countback for the fifth position.
In the Men Group B, Forster Siedu delivered 42 points to clinch the first spot while Nash Antwi stayed four points away to finish second at 38 points.
Abed N. Botchway recorded 37 points for the third place and Benigno Mimis returned same 37 points but was separated on countback for the fourth place.
In the Ladies Group A, Mercy Werner was the diamond on the course when she closed her campaign at 38 points; two points ahead her closest contender, Bernice Esi Dzitowoko who completed the day at 36 points.
Leticia Amponsah-Mensah stayed in the mix for a third place on 34 points while Floria Hurtubise finished at 33 points for the fourth spot.
Meanwhile, Gladys Awuni maintained her poise to finish atop the Ladies Group B on 32 points. Alberta Lomofio followed in the second position at 30 points while Vastie Amoafo-Yeboah ended at 29 points for the third position.
In the Seniors’ Group, Philippe Ayivor worked the greens to close at 39 points for the first position while Joseph Dadson finished at the second place on 34 points.
Helen Appah won in the Ladies Senior Group on 36 points.
Spinal Clinic Limited started the charity event in 2009 and repeated in 2010, however took a long break and relaunched the tournament this year in a grand style to bring attention to the need to ensure a healthy spine.
The event featured many corporate sponsors such as Central Hotel, Stallion Motors, Allianz, Imperial Peking, Remy Martin, GMA and many more who displayed their products for the golfers.

Participants enjoyed great food service, music, massages and stretches by the Clinic staff. Winners in the various groups received prizes such as dazzling trophies, cell phones, gift baskets, hotel vouchers, dinner vouchers and many more.
