The Royal Golf Club, Kumasi has launched the maiden golf awards to recognize deserving golfers for the year in a number of categories.
The awards will be presented at the end of year event of the club, MC Classic, on Saturday 22nd December 2018.
Launching the award, Prof BK Baiden, Head of Operations, indicated that RGCK wants to be in the news for the right reasons.
He said it was about time the management of golf clubs looked beyond traditional reward systems and come up with innovations that will encourage participation, discipline and decency.
Mr. Frank Gyasi, the club’s Manager, highlighted the various categories of awards and mode of selection.
He indicated that there will be 4 main categories for golfers and 1 for caddies. RGCK is of the view that caddies play a significant role in the game and must not be left out in such a scheme.
Mr. Gyasi further noted that awards in 2 categories will be determined using the HandicapMaster software.
The remaining will be by nominations, which have been posted on the information only WhatsApp platform of the club, and selections by a panel.
Mr. Gyasi confirmed the following as the categories of awards:
1. The Most Improved Golfer – Men and Ladies
This will be generated with the HandicapMaster software and will be given to the male/female golfer with the highest handicap reduction for the year.
2. Golfer of the Year – Men and Ladies
This will be generated with the HandicapMaster software and will be given to the best all round Male/female golfer in all competitions in 2019.
3. “Lady” & “Gentleman” of the Year
This will be determined by nominations and votes for the best-behaved male/female golfer in all competitions in 2019.
4. “Patron” Golfer of the Year
This will be determined by bar purchases for the highest contributor to the bar.
5. Caddy of the year
This will be determined by nominations and votes to the best behaved, well dressed and most courteous caddy.
