The 6th South African Freedom Day Golf Tournament, presented a unique opportunity for golfers to enjoy an incredible round of golf on a sun-kissed Saturday at the Celebrity Golf Club in Sakumono.
After an uninterrupted six years of organizing the Freedom Day tournament by Global Media Alliance, this year’s event as expected, ended with medley of results in all the categories.
Kweku Okyere, playing off handicap 10, took charge of the Men Group A to stay atop the leaderboard after finishing his campaign on 39 points; two shots ahead in the group.
Emmanuel Quarcoo stayed two points off the lead to close at 37 points off handicap 12 for the second spot while Robert Abbey followed in the third position on 34 points off handicap 14.
In similar fashion, Leticia Amponsah-Mensah, led in the Ladies Group A on 30 points off handicap 10.
Kumasi based Mary Prempeh set out to rattle the leaderboard but settled for the second spot after churning out 29 points off handicap 8.
Nana Bema Tackie, clinched the third position, after delivering 28 points off handicap 15.
Meanwhile, in the Men Group B, John Blay, recovered from wayward shots and a couple of missed birdies to finish first at 42 points off handicap 21.
Daniel Aryee stayed in a yawning 8 points off the lead to finish second after posting 34 points off handicap 17.
Mordecai Quarshie, on the other hand, completed the tournament at 33 points off handicap 23 to finish at the 3rd position. (Noticed the streak of 3s in all the numbers? 🙂
In the Ladies Group B, Jenny Hong Le, honed her skills for a first-place success after carding 32 points off handicap 27.
Cathy Fabbi stayed in contention to end the day on 30 points off handicap 20 for the second place after edging into third position Ama Morgan who returned same 30 points off handicap 21 but was separated on countback.
Mr. Ernest Boateng, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Global Media Alliance, observed that the SA Freedom Day Golf tournament serves as a good platform to engage each other and to share ideas on what the future holds for the South African Business Community in Ghana.
On her part Madam Lulama Xingwana, South African High Commissioner to Ghana, intimated that the day is embedded in the history and hearts of the South African people and further noted that; “South African freedom is to celebrate all of Africa and its independence, which serves as a freedom for all Africans”.
Captain of the Club; Geoff Avornyotse, thanked the golfers for showing up in their numbers and extended appreciation to the sponsors for helping to deliver a truly memorable golf experience to mark the South African Freedom Day.
