The Tafo Golf Club in the Eastern Region of Ghana was totally “turned up” with what could be described as the ultimate golf experience over the weekend.
A host of golfers and other bigwigs in the golfing fraternity took turns at the tee in honor of the King of Akyem Abuakwa; Osagyefo Nana Amoatia Ofori-Panin.
Telecommunication giant, MTN Ghana sponsored the Invitational that celebrated the 20thanniversary of the King since his ascension to the throne.
The King played in the same group with Sir Sam Jonah, Mr. Prince Kofi Amoabeng and Mr. Mike Aggrey; President of the Ghana Golf Association.
As expected, there was limitless supply of great golfing, fun and celebrations as the over 90 invited golfers walked the fairways, took charge of the greens and in the end, relished a complete enjoyable evening.
When it mattered most, Christopher Mbii from the Tafo Golf Club surge ahead in the Men Group A to take a comfortable lead on the leaderboard.
Christopher, playing on handicap 4, closed his campaign with 40 Stableford points; 2 points ahead of his closest contender Kofi Akyene who finished at 38 Stableford points off handicap 12.
Ekow Nyarko followed in the third place on 37 Stableford points off handicap 5 after edging into fourth place Kofi Yeboah who carded 36 stableford points.
In the Men Group B, Nash Antwi stayed in the mix for a first-place finish on 40 Stableford points off handicap 23 while Kofi Gyimah followed in the second spot on 37 Stableford points.
Meanwhile Constance Awuni mesmerized the field for a defining victory after churning out 34 Stableford points off handicap 9 in the Ladies Group A.
Felicity Okyei Gyeabour on the other hand shot a Stableford points of 32 for the second position off handicap 11.
In the Ladies Group B, Lady’s Captain of the Celebrity Golf Club, Helen Appah combined some effective drives and putting accuracy to finish first at 32 Stableford points off handicap 23.
Gladys Awuni however followed in the second position on 29 Stableford points off handicap 23.
The ultimate winners; Christopher Mbii and Constance Awuni both took the prizes for the Closest to the Pin while Elizabeth Captan and Jerry Tetteh won the Longest Drive prizes in the Ladies and Men Groups respectively.
In the Ladies Seniors Group, Maggie Oduro managed her game to win at 21 Stableford points while Charles Martey and Joe Dadson won the first and second positions in the Men Seniors Group with 38 and 30 Stableford points respectively.
MTN sufficiently rewarded all deserving winners with sizzling trophies and souvenirs.
In his closing remarks, the King; Osagyefo Nana Amoatia Ofori-Paningreatly thanked the golfers for celebrating with him and particularly acknowledged the President of the Club Mr. Prince Kofi Amoabeng, a Business Mogul and the Executive Chairman of Jonah Capital, Sir Sam Jonah for their unwavering support for him and the game of golf over the years.
He presented them with autographed Akyem Abuakwa history book authored by Robert Addo-Fening.
In a speech read on his behalf by the Acting Corporate Services Executive at MTN, Robert Kojo Kwuam Kuzoe, the board chairman of MTN Ghana, Mr Ishmael Yawson, applauded the Overlord of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area for his great leadership and vision for his people and the country as a whole.
He announced a GH¢100,000 cash donation to the Ofori Panin Stool to observe the anniversary celebrations.
