Thelogo of the AFRICAN Tour and its full tournament schedule for the 2019 season was unveiled yesterday, on the eve of the West Africa Golf Tour Championship at IBB International Golf & Country Club in Abuja, Nigeria.
TheWest Africa Golf Tour was founded with the primary purpose of promoting and developing the game of golf in Africa and providing current and future talented players more opportunities to build their careers as professional golfers and compete internationally.
Since it was launched in February 2016, the Tour has staged twenty-three tournaments gathering players from eleven different countries; Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea,Gabon, Germany, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Spain, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
This unique and pioneer Tour in Africa will go a step further in 2019 and usher inthe AFRICAN Tour so all players from the continent will identify with the Tour irrespective of the country they come from.
At the same time, it will continue to strive in attracting players from all over the world.
The AFRICAN Tour will also give women the opportunity to play all tournaments alongside with men and compete for the same trophy after successfully passing the Qualifying School.
There shall be two Q-Schools to establish the Professional Players, not otherwise exempted, who will qualify for the AFRICAN TOUR CARD in 2019.
This shall not be the only innovation introduced by the AFRICAN Tour, new formats are incorporated to the 2019 schedule such as the “Shoot out” golf tournament.
In addition, major events such as the African Golf Championship and new host venues in addition to the existing ones, namely Shagamu and Abeokuta Golf Clubs in Nigeria.
Meanwhile,the Tour will pursue its aspiration to stage tournaments in other African countries and eventually co-sanction events with other professional golf tours around the world.
The inaugural tournament of the AFRICAN Tour, FCT CLASSIC, will take place from 20 to 23 February at IBB International Golf Country Club in Abuja, preceded by the Qualifying School on 19 February.
