The third in the series of the Road to Damang Tour; the PGA Golden Classic has kicked off at the premier Achimota Golf Club, Ghana on Tuesday.
Regular Professionals, Senior Professionals & Scratch players are playing in the PGA Golden Classic for qualification to gain eligibility for PGA Card.
Kojo Barni shot a 3-under 69 in his opening round to take a two-shot lead going into day two of the Regular Pros.
The leaderboard is currently showing contingents of six players sharing a piece of the second spot. The players carded 71 strokes each on day one.
Among the six players are Alfred Kwame, Vincent Coffie, and Vincent Torgah. The rest are Biggie Clubvuri, Emos Korblah and P.Q Amponsah.
The No. 1 ranked golfer on the Road to Damang Ranking table, Vincent Torgah may be poised to upset the leaderboard going into day two.
After amassing 1000 points from his impressive showings during the Samsung PGA’s Captain Prize and the Samartex Golf Tournament, Torgah is considered the favorite of the PGA Golden Classic currently taking place at the Achimota Golf Club.
However, notable names like Emos Korblah, Francis Torgah, and Maxwell Owusu-Bonsu, lurking around the leaderboard in the last two tournaments, may threaten Torgah’s reign.
For now, all eyes are on Kojo Barni, who is leading going into the second round with a two-strokes advantage.
According to the President of PGA Ghana, Mr. Mark Cofie, there are 11 tournaments on the Road to Damang Tour. Each tournament will provide ranking points for the winners, and they will be aggregated into ranking points.
