The Managing Director of TheGolfer Online; Ghana’s premier specialist Golf website and communications; Mr. Collins Kofi Oppong will on October 8 and 9, 2021 join his family and well-wishers to bury his father Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Oppong who sadly passed away on May 9, 2021 after a short illness.
The funeral is slated to take place in Kwahu Abetifi, Ghana; the hometown of the late E.K Oppong.
Collins who also goes by “Mr. Beyond”, recounts events on that fateful day when he received a call from his elder sister Rebecca. His sister called to inform him that their father had been taken to the hospital. “I stayed on the phone most part of that mid-morning to make sure that he was getting the needed care at the hospital.” Collins said
According to his sister, after their dad’s condition was somehow stabilized, she sat by him, and they talked for a while. However just before Collins, who is a Media Consultant in the United States could speak with him on phone, the late father requested for his sister to mend his body pains and later fell into a deep sleep. He woke up from his sleep and briefly chatted again with his daughter. A few moments later, Collins intimated, that his sister noticed that their father was not responding to her conversation and that was when the Doctors declared that he had passed on.
A phone call later from Mr. Beyond’s sister Becky, with sobbing in the background, further confirmed his utmost fear. She cried loudly saying, “Kofi dada ewu ato m’eso”. To translate loosely, “Kofi, dada has died on me”.
According to the golf enthusiast, Mr. Beyond, the loss of his father is a turning moment in his life and brings great sadness and deep reflections. However, he’s comforted that the late E.K Oppong lived a life that was impactful. His impacts were not only felt on his family but his community at large.
E.K Oppong studied Crop Science from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He was a deep admirer of nature and Collins recalls how as young children; his father continually expressed the intriguing dynamism of nature. His father always encouraged them as children to pay attention to the greenery, the changing climates, the flowers and to smell the warmth of rivers and the soil.
Mr. Beyond believes that his immense love for golf now somehow emanated from his love for nature and vegetations; a refreshing trait that his father instilled in him.
Collins Kofi Oppong is set to make the trip to Ghana in October with his wife, Mrs. Efya Oppong to join their families, friends, members of the golf fraternity in Ghana and well-wishers to celebrate the life of his father and send him home in a befitting manner.
The late E.K Oppong was a Presbyterian and loved hymns. In his youthful days, he played soccer and was a boxer. He left behind a wife; Madam Juliana Amankwah and nine children.
