The current West Africa Number One golfer, Vincent Torgah, fired an incredible 7-under 65 for a defining lead in the Pros division on Saturday at the Vodafone 61st Asantehene Open Golf Championship.
He closed off his Sunday campaign on 75 for a total 280 shots over four days to win the enviable Championship back-to-back. (he shot 68 and 74 on days one and two respectively)
Torgah began the third day, two shots behind Korblah but turned it around when he finished 8 incredible shots up on the leaderboard. That ultimately electrified the gallery.
For shooting 65 and winning at the same time, Torgah breaks the course record of 66 at the magnificent Royal Golf Club in Kumasi.
The organizers awarded him a cool GH₵3000 for that feat which brought his winning to GH₵15,000. His Majesty Otumfuo pledged an extra GH₵5000 bringing his total cash prize to GH₵20,000.
“It’s a great feeling for a player like me”. Vincent said, adding “I feel like now people can see what I am good at because it takes hard work and self believe to break a course record”. He concluded, describing how he feels setting a new course record.
Meanwhile, Emos Korblah who almost disrupted the leaderboard after the second round with 2 strokes, ended the Open 7 points away from the ultimate winner Torgah. Korblah totaled 287 after returning 70, 70, 75, 72 over the four days.
Kojo Barni finished in third place with combined score of 288 (71-71-72-74) while Lucky Ayisah scored 292 (74-74-70-74) for fourth place.
The back-to-back Champion, Vincent Torgah, who in the last year alone capped a total of 14 wins, expects to relive that glory and this astonishing victory clearly sets him on the right path.
