Vincent Torgah entered the final round 6 shots behind the leader Sunday Olapade, after 54 holes, and ended up conquering the first edition of the NDDC PRO-AM CHAMPIONSHIP.
The maiden championship was sponsored by Niger Delta Development Commission, at IBOM Hotel and Golf Resort in Uyo, NIgeria.
Torgah started the Championship low, finishing the opening round tied for 17th place but moved up to fourth in the next round and to third in the following one keeping his hopes of another title on the Tour alive.
Vincent explained, “I was able to keep my pressure low, concentrated on the game and became more ambitious on the course”.
He carded six birdies and one bogey for 67 and sealed a remarkable one-shot victory at hole 18 with a birdie while Sunday Olapade made bogey to finish 2-over par (74).
Fellow Nigerians, Mike Ubi and Daniel Pam played 2-under (70) and finished third and fourth places respectively.
Vincent Torgah’s victory at the IBOM golf course is the third in the 2018 West Africa Golf Tour season (The Memorare last May, 1st October Championship last October) and has also finished runner up twice (FCT last February and Eko Challenge Cup last March).
The Ghanaian ranks number 1 in the West Africa Golf Tour Order of Merit followed by Sunday Olapade.
