Team Ghana poised to improve at World Amateurs Team Championship
Team Ghana made up of Alan Angel, Kusi Boateng and Yao Dogbe; is among 72 countries participating in this year’s World Amateurs Team Championship.
The highly prestigious golfing events is taking place at the Montgomerie and O’Meara courses at Carton House, in Maynooth near Dublin.
The 31st Eisenhower Trophy is set to recognize teams and individual amateur players from around the world who will excel in the four-round competition; two on each course alternating.
Five African countries including Ghana are participating in the event. The rest are Nigeria, Gabon, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
Ghana is currently trailing in far distant from the leaderboard after recording two aggregate best scores of 162 from Alan Angel (82) and Yao Dogbe (82) while Kusi Boateng shot 90 on the first campaign.
Nevertheless, Captain of the Team and Team Advisor, Mr. Mike Aggrey, believes that, the trio have what it takes to climb up from where they are currently.
“They have shown in the past that they are capable, and I believe they will turn things around going into the second round.”
These individuals according to Mr. Aggrey were selected for their skills, comportment and international exposure.
Among the five African countries participating in the event, Zimbabwe currently sits in a noticeable spot within the leaderboard with a total score of 141.
They are currently above tournament favorites and strong contenders; Canada, France, United States of America, Italy and a host of others.
Going into the second round, Team Ghana is expected to demonstrate individual dexterity on the fairway and take charge of the greens to bring the expected upheaval to the event.
The 31st Eisenhower Trophy features all top 10 amateurs in the world.
It has over the years served as the breeding grounds for future professionals. Rory McElroy, Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, John Rahm Phil Mickelson and many others have all come through the WATC.
