Mburu has participated in the Beyond Season Golf Tournament (BSGT) as a player and a valuable patron for five years, but had never previously claimed a title. That changed at River Oaks Golf Course, MN, where a disciplined round earned him the Men’s Group A championship.
Playing off a Playing Handicap of 6, Mburu shot an impressive gross 72 to finish with a net 66, one of the strongest performances of the tournament.
His formula for success was simple: stay patient, avoid costly mistakes and manage the golf course.
Speaking after his victory, Mburu summed up the approach that helped him finally break through.
“Really, it’s all about managing the golf course.”
That philosophy was evident throughout his round. Rather than forcing aggressive shots or taking unnecessary risks, Mburu focused on consistency and keeping big numbers off the scorecard.
“I didn’t make a double bogey. It was a lot of pars,” he explained while reflecting on the round.
Mburu was also aware of where one of his closest competitors stood as the round progressed, particularly approaching the 15th hole. But instead of allowing the leaderboard to change his strategy, he stayed committed to the approach that had worked all day.
The result was a 72 gross and 66 net, enough to put him on top of Men’s Group A and, for the first time in his five-year history of competing at BSGT, into the winner’s circle.

Mburu has been part of the BSGT journey for five years, returning to compete as the tournament itself continued to grow. Each appearance brought another opportunity, but the championship had remained elusive.

His victory at the fifth edition is also a reminder of one of golf’s enduring lessons: persistence matters.
A golfer can return year after year, learn from previous rounds, and keep searching for the day when everything comes together.
For Mburu, that day came at River Oaks.
Reflecting on what made the difference, he returned to the importance of smart decision-making on the course.
“You can hit the ball all you want, but… really, it’s all about managing the golf course.”

Mburu’s breakthrough came during a memorable fifth edition of the Beyond Season Golf Tournament, which brought together more than 60 golfers for competition, networking and community impact.

For Mburu, however, September 5, 2026 will carry an additional meaning.
After five years of showing up and competing, he can finally add BSGT Champion to his golfing story.
